If you are like most people, security is on top of your list.. Right? Yes, it should be. You see, Simon Sinek, one of the better known authors and motivational speakers, once stated, “When people feel safe and protected by the leadership in an organization, the natural reaction is to trust and cooperate.” Does that sound familiar?
It is now widely understood that employees who live in constant fear of losing their jobs cannot perform at their best. A good leader must thus strike a good balance between business needs and welfare of his/her employees.
When such a balance exists, employees tend to feel more grateful and committed, leading to higher productivity.
When people feel safe in their work environment, they fear nothing and focus on their creativity. As a result, they are more likely to be more efficient, give their best performance and achieve outstanding results for the company.
To help you out , here are 4 tips you can use to make your employees feel safe more in your business:
1. CREATE A POSITIVE WORK ENVIRONMENT. Cultivate a happy workplace for your employees. This includes celebrating things like birthdays at work. When people are happy they are more likely to perform better.
2. PROVIDE BENEFITS AND PERKS. Apart from salary, provide different ways to reward and thank your employees and contractors for their exemplary performance. This will go a long way to motivate them further.
3. MAKE THEM FEEL INCLUDED. Most employees feel “at home” when their contributions are considered in the organizations’ decision-making processes. This makes them feel part of the organization they are serving.
4. ENCOURAGE GOOD COMMUNICATION. One way to make your team members feel safe is to let them know that you are open to their thoughts and feelings. So let the team know you’re willing to listen to their concerns.
As a business owner, remember that sometimes, all your team members really need is reassurance that you need them, that you value their skills and their knowledge. Hence setting the tone right in this direction helps you to build a sense of well-being and stability. This way your employees do not question their job safety.
Your top priority should be to help your team members to feel engaged so they can focus and produce results.
While this may sound easy for some leaders, others might struggle with it. And so if you need help and you want me to mentor you on how to achieve success in this area, then type “SUCCESS” below.
